Rolls Royce Merlin Engine Oil Separator Tank. Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster
This is a Oil seperator as fitted to the Rolls Royce Merlin engine and was used in several aircraft types such as the Spitfire, Hurricane, Lancaster and Mosquito but to name a few. The A.M. ref is 37J/30 Type 218/ F2. Made of brass, this item would have been found attached to the engine firewall. Its purpose was to collect oil vapor from the vacuum pump and return to the engine interior.
This particular example appears to be unused and still has the original cork bungs inserted in both the in and out pipes
